Why Should Near Anti

Why should People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) use expensive tungsten core armor-piercing projectile in the speed of more than 10,000 rounds near anti-aircraft gun? The ability to fight is kingcraft!

Speed of most of near anti-aircraft gun is below 5,000 rounds per minute. The main weapon of European goalkeeper near anti-aircraft system is GAU-8A "Avenger" 30mm seven-tube Gatling speed gun. The highest rate of fire is only 4200 rounds per minute. While the United States' dense array of near anti-aircraft guns uses 6 tubes of 20 mm M61A1 Gatling gun barrels with a firing rate of 3,000 to 4,500 rounds per minute. Russia's AK630 near anti-aircraft uses 6 tubes of AO-18, and the 30mm Gatling gun outputs fire of 3000 rounds per minute. The only one that exceeds 10,000 rounds per minute is China's strongest 1130 near anti-aircraft gun. Its rate of fire can reach 11,000 rounds per minute, and its performance ranks first in the world!

Near anti-aircraft guns are mainly Carbide Rods Single Hole equipped with multi-type bombs such as armor-piercing projectiles, high-explosive grenade, and semi-piercing grenades. Its barrage can effectively intercept the air target without tracking target continuously.

PLA’s 1130 anti-aircraft tungsten carbide strips gun usually performs air defense interception using long and short shots. The interception time is 0.1 second for each interception. That is, only one round of tungsten alloy armor-piercing projectile is consumed for one interception. The conversion is equivalent to 20,000 yuan. If counting tungsten core armor-piercing projectile mixed with high-explosive bomb, the cost will be lower, while compared to the anti-ship missiles hundreds of thousands or even millions of unit price, it is still cost-effective.

Why should PLA use the expensive tungsten core armor-piercing projectile in near anti-aircraft gun? This is mainly determined by the tactical mission of the near anti-aircraft! As the last barrier of the warship air defense system, the interception distance is usually within 3 km, so it is necessary to ensure that the attack target can be hit in a short time. If the target cannot be exploded at a long distance, the projectile will still cause major damage to the warship due to inertial impact. Moreover, modern anti-ship missiles and aircraft usually have a certain bullet-proof design, especially titanium-based bulletproof steel plates with a thickness of ten millimeters, such as Su-24, which only the tungsten core armor-piercing projectile with a capacity of 30 mm or more can handle it.
